They can also be upgraded and rank up, becoming stronger and gaining sturdier armor, better weapons, and improved horses. Since they can't be recruited from anywhere, Manhunters can only be hired by freeing them from captivity. They usually are victorious against Looters, but are almost always defeated by Sea Raiders. They are generally average fighters with blunt weapons that they use to knock out bandits, and they wear relatively light armor while riding horses. This is due to the fact that in earlier versions of the game, they actually were mounted.Manhunters are law enforcers who hunt the Looters, Deserters and other Bandits that roam throughout Calradia. As an added bonus, they are considered mounted for the purpose of calculating a party's movement speed on the world map. They do their job well, even for their high price and upkeep.

Hired Blades will be the shock troops of a mercenary army, out in front to tie up the enemy while the (usually) larger numbers of Mercenary Swordsmen behind close in to finish the job. They should be protected from cavalry, who will run rings around them, especially Khergit Horse Archers who can make short work of them. In close quarters, Hired Blades can carve up most any opposition because of the well-balanced nature of their equipment, not making use of unwieldy two-handers or large cumbersome shields. They should be backed up with ranged troops to make them most effective. Their relatively small shield makes them vulnerable to ranged attacks, however. However, they are powerful fighters and not to be trifled with. They always fight with the shield however, and never use the Bastard Sword as a two-hander.ĭue to their unusual appearance (heavily armoured and dismounted), Hired Blades are easily picked out on the battlefield. They are armed with either a Heavy Bastard Sword or an Arming Sword with a Horseman's Heater Shield in the other hand. They also have Mail Chausses or Iron Greaves complemented by Leather Gloves. They are armored in a Haubergeon and either a Guard Helmet, Great Helmet or a Bascinet. They will win with ease against equal numbers of Sea Raiders. The fighting ability of Hired Blades is comparable to that of Swadian Knights, albeit dismounted.

They are upgraded from Mercenary Swordsmen, and can often be found in taverns. Hired Blades are the highest-tier close-combat infantry (or cavalry in early versions of Mount&Blade) troops available in the mercenary troop tree.
